It is with a heavy heart that I share this sad news. Robert L. Harrison, Bob, passed away this Saturday, July 6, 2024. Robert L Harrison 3/11/1944 - 7/6/2024 A dear friend, poet, photographer, historian, children’s author, baseball fan, playwright, and so much more. He had over 75 cartoons, 4,400 photographs, 450 poems and 3 plays published. His photography won many awards, his works placed in over 90 books and anthologies. A graduate of Hofstra and Stony Brook Universities, he was employed as a parking lot attendant, bouncer, photographer, hot walker (for racetrack horses), special education teacher, radio transportation manager, and docent. His most recent endeavor was photographing Long Island poets at their public readings (115 poets at last count). His book, 29 Poems and a Play (Words With Wings Press) was published December 2023. He lived in East Meadow, NY with his wife, Dorothy. I was honored to present Bob with an APPRECIATION AWARD as HISTORIAN FOR THE LIP&LR (Long Island Poetry and Literature Repository) on May 30, 2024, which was a surprise presentation; he sat up front with me for the ride to and from Riverhead, chatting about everything. Though we spoke several times after, that was our last outing together. Bob’s photographs are the covers of numerous poetry books; if you have my B is for Betwixt and Between, both the front cover and back cover photos are his. I will miss Bob, an immense influence in my life both as a friend and poet. RIP, Bob. My Note: I am thankful that we had the opportunity to know and honor such a great man as Bob. I enjoyed the many conversations we had over the history of L I poetry and literature. He was a wonderful poet and person. I will miss him very much. Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan, Ph.D.
